Management through movies

Bollywood is not just all about masala movies and dancing around trees but there have been movies that are inspirational, which mirror changes in our society.

I would highlight movies like SWADES, CHAK DE INDIA, RANG DE BASANTI, RANN, 3 IDIOTS, WAKE UP SID, ROCKET SINGH, NAYAK and most recently MY NAME IS KHAN.

From these flicks we are inspired in terms of rural development, terrorism, corporate culture, media, politics and student life. Learning through films is actually very helpful because they reflect the society and you tend to understand the societal dynamics through movies. However, we should avoid getting inspired by movies like DEV D., DIL DOSTI ETC. which have a negative impact on the human mind.

To elaborate, I would like to discuss our favorite movie WAKE UP SID that stars none another than RANBIR KAPOOR. This movie depicts how a young teenage boy moves from his unsettled goals to his focus in life. With the help of friends and his new found love he realizes his passion for photography and pursues that as his goal and not do something he would regret in life. The main reason for his motivation was the separation he has suffered for a couple of months from his parents who provided him with everything throughout his life.

If one watches a movie with some theoretical concept then that's a better way to retain knowledge. Since management is experimental learning the film brings that element into it.

The new method has ensured greater sense of involvement among students and for a change animated discussions have replaced yawns.

I am sure that we all feel that having films on our course menu would bring that extra edge to the whole thing and will definitely be fun.

Personally to share an experience, my group for management accounting coursework presentation had prepared a 10 minute movie to depict our work instead of a power point presentation. This movie was a great learning experience and was enjoyed and appreciated by one and all.

So it is up to you to decide whether people follow movies or are movies based on people’s life.

voice of youth

Hey all!!,

iilm gave us another great opportunity to excavate our knowledge and put our opinions in front of esteemed panel , which included:

è Ms Richa

è Ms Leena

è Ms kakolli

In this event we did it all, from article discussion to papper presentation to case study.

Yes , I know as undergrads we all found the idea very boring and dull but the event was a great success. We had people talking about social networking , srk v/s shiv sena , csr , green marketing etc etc..

Let me give u all a brief as to what the participants topic was and what were their opinions

Team 1 : shirin and me (sara)

We took an article from forb magazine titled ‘social networking and recruitment’ and presented our views on why company should use social networking and what ‘can’ be the disadvantages of the same. We concluded by saying that “ it was on the company to decide that they would open the Pandora box or not cause social networking is here to stay and its on the organization to decide as to how would they use it best at their advantage”.

Team 2 : Eshaan Mathur

His topic was cloud , personally speaking if anybody wants to know anything about any sort of gadget please visit eshaan’s personal blog .. he is the right person to be with , cause his knowledge about technology is simply unquestionable. He did an auspicious power point presentation and inlighten everybody with the ‘cloud technology’.

Team 3 : Devina and suniya

Their topic was impact of environment change on two most powerful emergent economies i.e. india and china. They were just to good and mesmerized everybody with their analysis on the topic , they talked it all from per capita income to summits to contributing their on suggestions.

Team 4 : Ankita and Chandni

Their topic was change in oil prices impacting the economy all over the globe. This topic was to heavy and a lot o acquisitions was raised but hats of two both of them as they handeld each question very nicely. Trust me I never imagined that by using yen instead of dollars economy could be balanced.

Team 5 : Sunakshi , Srishti and Mayuree

Their topic was green marketing and csr. All three of them gave numerous examples and analyzed the case brilliantly. They concluded by giving various suggestion that company can use as green marketing tool or element and can likewise attain a competitive advantage over other organization and players present in market.

Team 6 : Akhil and Chirag

Their topic was ‘srk v/s shiv sena’. This was a debatable topic and covered aspect as youth’s voice , starting of new and cleam politics and humanity. They talked it all from various issues raised to dirty politics to religion discrimination etc etc.. It was very interesting to listen undergraduate students ( my friends) to talk about politics and raise issues while having a strong opinion .

Team 7 : Akshay

His topic was green earth . he started with a beautiful picture explanation and went on to discussing few things that we as a student could do to help the earth which is dying every second.

The event was a great success cause each one who participated gave their own views and recommendation to their topic.

Well to conclude , I would like to applaud and thank all the particpants of the event, the effort and particpation was no doubt remarkable by all of you,

The competition was very close however the final results were as follows:

Mr Knowledgable: Eshaan Mathur

Best Speaker: Sara Bower

Best Team 1st Prize : Ankita Walia & Chandni Raju

Best Team 2nd Prize: Sristi Pandey, Sunakshi & Mayuri

All of you were very good and I must take this opportunity to compliment Akshay Menon for his presentation skills & Suniya Devina team you were simply great.

Ankur & Varun thanks for being the masters of ceremony.
