Management through movies

Bollywood is not just all about masala movies and dancing around trees but there have been movies that are inspirational, which mirror changes in our society.

I would highlight movies like SWADES, CHAK DE INDIA, RANG DE BASANTI, RANN, 3 IDIOTS, WAKE UP SID, ROCKET SINGH, NAYAK and most recently MY NAME IS KHAN.

From these flicks we are inspired in terms of rural development, terrorism, corporate culture, media, politics and student life. Learning through films is actually very helpful because they reflect the society and you tend to understand the societal dynamics through movies. However, we should avoid getting inspired by movies like DEV D., DIL DOSTI ETC. which have a negative impact on the human mind.

To elaborate, I would like to discuss our favorite movie WAKE UP SID that stars none another than RANBIR KAPOOR. This movie depicts how a young teenage boy moves from his unsettled goals to his focus in life. With the help of friends and his new found love he realizes his passion for photography and pursues that as his goal and not do something he would regret in life. The main reason for his motivation was the separation he has suffered for a couple of months from his parents who provided him with everything throughout his life.

If one watches a movie with some theoretical concept then that's a better way to retain knowledge. Since management is experimental learning the film brings that element into it.

The new method has ensured greater sense of involvement among students and for a change animated discussions have replaced yawns.

I am sure that we all feel that having films on our course menu would bring that extra edge to the whole thing and will definitely be fun.

Personally to share an experience, my group for management accounting coursework presentation had prepared a 10 minute movie to depict our work instead of a power point presentation. This movie was a great learning experience and was enjoyed and appreciated by one and all.

So it is up to you to decide whether people follow movies or are movies based on people’s life.
